We extract high-quality fibers from agricultural residues that are already available in large quantities. We are starting with pineapple plants, which are produced in enormous amounts in Costa Rica – around 4.5 million tons per year – and are currently disposed of in environmentally harmful ways.
Our pineapple fibers are particularly long and strong – characteristics that make them a true alternative to wood pulp. They form the basis for specialty papers, visible packaging, and gypsum fiberboards that are not only sustainable but also high-performing.
Our patented extraction process is specifically designed for the properties of agricultural residues. This enables an economical, scalable, and resource-efficient fiber production – without additional cultivation or new raw material sources.
Our market entry strategy initially focuses on mechanically extracted fibers – a proven, low-risk process. In the next step, we will implement our patented chemical process and expand our product portfolio to include high-quality bleached pulp.

status:quo
Before its official founding in April 2022, eco:fibr was a project of the student initiative Enactus Hannover e.V.. During this time, all technical developments and the business model were created as part of an extracurricular commitment. Participation in the Hafven Accelerator in 2020 marked the first milestone in developing our new business model.
Since the establishment of eco:fibr GmbH in April 2022, our core team has been working full-time to bring our vision to life – and together we have achieved many milestones along the way.
With our current financing round, we are targeting a total volume of €600,000. The funds will be used specifically to enable our market entry in Q2 2026 and to generate initial revenues. Through contract manufacturing with our partner fiber-rec in Munich, we will be able to supply our first customers with industrial quantities of fibers and convert existing letters of intent into long-term contracts. To achieve this, we will import pre-shredded and dried pineapple plants and produce the fibers directly in Germany.
Afterwards, we will establish our first fiber production plant as a lighthouse project in Costa Rica. This will enable us to provide companies with innovative and resource-efficient fibers on an industrial scale – and to establish ourselves as a profitable player in the market.
