#World Environment Day

June 5th is World Environment Day, and for us it is not a celebration in the traditional sense, but more of a moment to pause and reflect. 🌍

One topic that keeps us thinking is the question of what actually happens to plant-based residues that are left on the fields after agricultural harvests. Enormous amounts of plant material are generated after every harvest around the world, and much of it goes unused. Instead it is often disposed of in environmentally harmful ways, burned or treated with chemical substances that are partially highly toxic and still being used in many countries, even though they have long been banned elsewhere.

World Environment Day reminds us that these questions are not only about large political decisions, but also about how we handle the resources that are already available to us. Does it always have to be about opening up new raw material sources, or is it worth taking a closer look at what is already there?

Agricultural residues have the potential to make a real contribution, because they can be purposefully processed as an already existing material without requiring additional land or the development of new raw material sources. For us this is not a theoretical concept, but the approach we work with every day. 🍍🌱

Today is a good day to share perspectives like this. Not as a solution to everything, but as food for thought about what becomes possible when existing resources are used with purpose.
