We turn agricultural residues into valuable raw materials

We use agricultural plant residues to develop our fibers. By giving existing resources a second life, we unlock the potential of materials that are often left unused after harvest or disposed of in environmentally harmful ways.

Paperisation

= Replacing plastics with paper-based alternatives. eco:fibr helps the fiber- processing industry reduce its dependence on wood, a volatile raw material.

Circular Economy

We give agricultural residues a valuable second life through further processing, instead of relying on virgin raw materials or using additional land to produce new resources.

Pineapple plant, a raw material for the future

Originally native to South America, pineapples are now cultivated wherever warm and humid conditions prevail year-round. The main growing regions are Asia, Latin America, and West Africa. We work with plantations in countries such as Indonesia, Cameroon, and Costa Rica - regions with a long tradition of pineapple cultivation and ideal growing conditions.

Costa Rica - Global Market Leader

Costa Rica is about the size of Switzerland and the world’s leading exporter of pineapples. A large share of the fruit produced there is imported into Europe. These production volumes present the industry with significant environmental and economic challenges.

A pineapple plant produces only two harvests during its commercial lifespan. After the second harvest, typically after around two years, the fields must be replanted. To speed up this process, it is common practice in Costa Rica to dry the remaining plants with paraquat, a herbicide banned in Europe, before burning them. This practice not only causes significant environmental damage but also costs plantation operators up to US$2,500 per hectare.

Other Agricultural Residues

We have already tested other residues, including by-products from sugar production and rice cultivation, and know that our solution can be applied to a wide range of other agricultural materials.
