Why We Focus on Pineapple Farming in Costa Rica

People often ask us: Why does eco:fibr GmbH focus on pineapple waste in Costa Rica when there are also unused agricultural residues in Europe?

📌 Costa Rica is the world's largest exporter of pineapples, covering 60% of global demand. A significant portion of these exports ends up on European tables—available year-round and at the lowest possible price.

The problem?

🔴 Intensive farming damages soil and water resources.

🔴 Massive plant waste: After harvest, pineapple plants have no economic value and must be discarded.

🔴 Harmful disposal methods: Since they cannot easily decompose, they are chemically dried and burned—leading to severe environmental and health consequences.

Our solution? Instead of burning this valuable resource, we transform it into sustainable pulp. This extends the value chain and reduces environmental harm.
