#Where does pineapple grow?

Its origins trace back to South America, to the region around Brazil and Paraguay. From there, Spanish and Portuguese colonizers brought it to the rest of the world in the 16th century. Today, pineapple is grown in tropical regions all around the globe, from Southeast Asia to Africa to Central America.

The three largest producers worldwide are Indonesia, the Philippines, and Costa Rica, which together account for a large share of global production. Brazil, China, India, Thailand, Nigeria, and Mexico round out the list of other major growing countries. 🌍 Costa Rica is the world's largest exporter of fresh pineapple, supplying over 75 percent of the European market.

Wherever pineapple is grown, harvesting leaves behind enormous amounts of plant residue. Leaves, stems, crowns. Material that in most regions remains unused to this day or is disposed of in environmentally harmful ways. The potential behind it is enormous. 🌱
