Today is the global Earth Overshoot Day, 30.07.2026. The day on which humanity as a whole has consumed more natural resources than the earth can regenerate over the entire year. 🌍

What that means in concrete terms: everything we consume from today until December 31st goes beyond what our earth can regenerate within this year. And this is not happening for the first time, the Overshoot Day has been shifting further and further forward in the calendar for decades. A trend that shows how the pressure on natural resources is increasing worldwide.

The Overshoot Day is not the same for every country. Each country has its own date, depending on how high its resource consumption is relative to available biocapacity. Germany already reached this point on May 10th this year, significantly earlier than the global average. This shows how differently resource consumption varies between countries.

One of many starting points is the question of how we handle raw materials that already exist but have barely been used so far. Plant-based residues that are left on the fields after harvest and are often disposed of in environmentally harmful ways are exactly one such example. Materials that exist, but have so far simply been overlooked.

At eco:fibr this is exactly what we work on. Making purposeful use of existing residues as a raw material source instead of drawing on new land or resources is not a trend for us but the core of what we do. No grand gesture, but a consistent decision we make every day. 🍍♻️
