#Project with the ifBB

What happens when you add our pineapple fines to plastic? That’s exactly what we’re researching now 🔬.

Together with the Institute for Bioplastics and Biocomposites (IfBB) at  Hannover University, we’re investigating how our pineapple:fibr fines can be incorporated into (bio)polymers. The project „Entwicklung von Ananasfaser-Kunststoffcompounds zur Nutzung von Reststoffen der Zellstoffproduktion” (developing pineapple-fiber plastic compounds from pulp-production residues) is funded under the Hannover Region Innovation program by Region Hannover – Wirtschaftsförderung.

In concrete terms, it’s a feasibility study. We’re testing whether the fines can be incorporated into polymer matrices, and we’re carrying out a basic characterization of the resulting compounds, for example water barrier and strength.

The result is granulates made of plastic and pineapple fines that can be processed, for instance, by injection molding. For us, this is an exciting step, because it opens up a new field of application for our fines.

We’ll keep you posted!
