field report - Susan in Costa Rica

December was all about restarting our operational implementation for eco:fibr . 🚀🌱

In this context, we not only ordered material on a ton scale for the first time after thorough sampling, but also traveled to Costa Rica . Our colleague Susan, not just visited her family but also existing and new stakeholders and held important discussions.

🌾 Visit to a farm and a potential supplier

Susan visited a pineapple farm in Costa Rica to evaluate machinery and processes for processing pineapple plant residues . Together with local producers and technology experts, she analyzed systems that enable the shredding and collection of plant residues directly in the field .

🤝 Institutional discussions

On another day, Susan participated in a full-day in-person meeting at Finca Tres Amigos in San Carlos . Representatives from agriculture, science, ministries, and international development cooperation came together there – including stakeholders from the EU Global Gateway , the Costa Rican Ministry of the Environment (MINAE) , the University of Costa Rica , and the United States Chamber of Agriculture (Cámara de Pineros Unidos) .

In this context, eco:fibr was presented – with a focus on:

• our clear market application ,

• the industrial use of our fibers ,

• our already secured financing in Europe ,

• and our international scaling strategy .

The response was clear: eco:fibr was perceived as structured, market-oriented, and highly effective in implementation. It was particularly emphasized that we are not in a concept phase , but are already operational and taking concrete next steps .

For us, this has once again demonstrated that operational presence and institutional exchange go hand in hand. Only in this way can we clarify misunderstandings early on, build trust, and position eco:fibr as a serious player in the international bioeconomy .

This on-site work strengthens:
